Yagnopavit Jatoi

Yagnopavit Janoi

This is also known as the ‘sacred thread ceremony’ is performed to mark the commencement of formal education in the Vaidic tradition. It is an initiation process to learn the sacred Gayatri Mantra. Upanayan ceremony includes the wearing of Janoi (sacred thread) on the body.

During this ceremony, the groom is offered three strands of sacred thread, each representing three vows, namely – the vow to respect knowledge, the vow to his parents, and the promise to respect the society in which he lives

For Hindu men to get married, the thread ceremony is a prerequisite, especially in certain communities like Lohana. Therefore, before a Hindu groom weds, he must undergo Upanayana. Usually, this ritual takes place a few days before the wedding or during Mandvo Ropan Vidhi.

The Yagnopavit/Janoi ceremony may include either Gayatrimata Puja & Havan or GrahShanti.

It can take place during Mandvo Vidhi of Groom or the Bride.

Presence of Maternal uncles is necessary.

Janoi is 3 strings for unmarried person and should add further 3 more strings after he is married.
